Sherman Minter is the President of The Principal’s Office, LLC and author of The Schooling Game. He also wrote Down the Rabbit Hole, a commentary on NCLB, published in Education Week in July 2004.
Before entering the field of education, he spent many years in industry and business. He was shocked by what he saw in the actual practice of education and inspired to write a book to help parents and educators see what he had seen as injustices in the field.
He spent ten years in Alaska as a teacher and principal working almost exclusively with Alaska Native children. This experience brought home most pointedly the fact that public education does not serve the interests of all children and that it can in fact be a completely destructive force in the lives of many. He recognized that children were actually being harmed by his work and left the field to write and advocate for change.
Sherman is a professional coach trained specifically to coach beginning and struggling principals by the New Teacher Center, University of California at Santa Cruz. He is thoroughly versed in the ISLLC standards and incorporates these into his work with principals and parents.
